The beginning of a new decade is a great time to re-set!

I think I can, I might, I'd like too and I could, but will I?

As we move into 2020, I have decided this is going to be my year! No longer am I going to consider options. This is the start of something exciting and I cant wait for the journey to begin.

I have said to my children many times - its not the smartest people in the world who are generally the most successful, its the ones who are motivated to succeed. Motivated to work hard, study hard, commit, operate with valued integrity and put in all that they can. Its those who bring their best self to each task.

2020 is a great landmark date to consider your options, dont put up with substandard leadership. If your boss doesn't recognise their role as being one to serve their people, then I recommend its time for you to find one that does. This is 2020 - a time when we expect genuine equality in the workplace, its a time for employers to offer wherever possible work from home opportunities, because modern leaders today know its about quality and outcomes of work over your quantity of hours. Its about trust and servant leadership over command and control.

Its also a time when being in your 50's doesnt make you out of date, but rather can make you in demand. Because motivation is king. If you want to be a master of your own destiny then 2020 is a great time to do this.

The knowledge you have obtained/retained over your working life is valuable to the right teams, to the smarter organisations. Fiona.... a highly recognised burns specialist once said when accepting an award for her research "that she can see so far because she is standing on the shoulders of those who came before her". Today is not about being an island. Its about finding your village - leveraging off each other and encouraging each other to do and be their best self. That it is about the people and customers we serve, and not one individual.

Over my 30 years in recruitment, I personally have had the absolute privilege to lead and be inspired by a multitude of talented people across Australia and abroad. More recently, I was genuinely humbled (as well as being astounded) by the 10,000+ well wishes I received on LinkedIn when I launched Hinchen Resources this week, all lending their encouragement to my new venture. This is my village telling me this is the right time! Thank you to each and every one of you.

So today I encourage you all to consider what 2020 is going to look like for you. Make it the year to reset - evaluate your goals, your level of contribution, the recognition you receive and the reward. If it lines up - you are onto a winner. If not, then identify what needs to change?
